ROPA Method
The ROPA method is a variant of In Vitro Fertilization treatment. It is aimed at female couples who decide to have a baby together and want to be actively involved in the pregnancy: one undergoes an ovarian stimulation to extract her eggs and fertilize them and the other receives the embryo in her uterus and carries the pregnancy. With this method, the two women are mothers: one is the genetic mother (she provides the egg) and the other is the pregnant mother (she carries the pregnancy to term).

Is this the method you need?
This is an ideal technique if you are a female couple and you both want to be involved and actively take part in the pregnancy. The treatment consists of hormonally stimulating the woman who donates her eggs and preparing the uterus with oestrogen for the partner receiving the embryo. In the meantime, the donor’s sperm is prepared.
Treatment
The usual assisted reproduction technique for the ROPA method is In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). In this procedure, we fertilize an egg with a sperm outside the uterus, which gives a certified likelihood of pregnancy of as much as 71%.
Before starting treatment
We need to know which treatment suits you best, so we will make a personalised diagnosis of your case.
Phase 1
Ovarian stimulation and puncture of the woman who provides the eggs
The woman who provides her eggs undergoes ovarian stimulation at home for about 10-12 days. Using ultrasound and hormonal analysis, the best time is decided for extracting the eggs by means of a mild anaesthesia. The procedure lasts 15 minutes.
Phase 2
Fertilization and culture of embryos
A sperm sample from an anonymous donor is thawed, ensuring maximum physical similarity with the woman who will receive the eggs. The eggs are inseminated, and the generated embryos remain between 2 and 6 days until the day of their transfer.
Phase 3
Preparation of the endometrium
The pregnant partner must undergo hormonal treatment to prepare her uterus in order to implant the embryo in the future.
Phase 4
Embryo transfer
The highest quality embryo is selected to be inserted vaginally into the uterus of the recipient woman. The process is quick and painless, and does not require anaesthesia. About two weeks after the transfer, the recipient woman undergoes a beta-HCG test to confirm pregnancy.
Phase 5
We freeze the non-transferred pre-embryos
We cryopreserve the non-transferred pre-embryos by vitrification and they are stored in liquid nitrogen in the embryo bank. They can be used in subsequent cycles if a pregnancy is not achieved on the first attempt or if, after a success, you decide to go for a second baby.

The treatment, but also the beginning of pregnancy, can cause pain, tiredness, breast swelling, fluid retention and light bleeding. This is neither a good nor a bad sign, but it is quite common.
The hours immediately following the treatment are very intense emotionally for the patient.
We are aware that these emotions are intense, so we recommend that you keep your mind occupied on other matters until you take the pregnancy test.
