Dr. Aurora Sánchez

Dr. Sánchez has been an Associate Physician at the Genetics Service Unit of the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona since 1992. She is also a consultant for the Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics Department at Hospital Clínic in Barcelona. She has been involved in developing the Department's clinical area: care, clinical assessment, diagnostic confirmation and genetic counselling, being a member of the Foetal Anomalies Committee of the Prenatal Diagnosis Unit of the Hospital Clínic as a geneticist. Head of the research line on Huntington's disease and chromosomal anomalies, as well as the clinical evaluation of mental retardation and neurofibromatosis. She is also scientific advisor to the Catalan Association for the Study of Fragile X Syndrome, the Catalan Association of Huntington's Disease and a member of the Spanish Association of Prenatal Diagnosis and the Spanish Association of Human Genetics. In her experience as a teacher, she has actively and directly contributed to the training in the field of clinical genetics of different physicians from other specialties. She has trained genetic counsellors by participating as a teacher, tutor and internship coordinator in the Master's Degree in Genetic Counselling offered by the Pompeu Fabra University and the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Dr. Sánchez has written more than 80 articles in international journals, more than 10 in Spanish journals and five book chapters. She is lead investigator of four FIS research projects and contributes to six others. In addition, she is a scientific evaluator for ANEP, the National Administration of Public Education.
